  1. Written description of JavaScript application
  2. My website project for this program is developing a website for my son’s elementary school. The JavaScript application I have found which would be very useful in this website project creates a "remote control" device (similar to the TV-style remote control). This remote would have the following buttons:

    School Information

    Lunches

    School Schedules

    Student Handbook

    Parent/Teacher Communication

    Links page

    Classroom Page

    Navigation Keys such as HOME

This remote gives visitors the ability to move about the site with the click of a button. This is an especially effective metaphor since this site is for an elementary school. The TV-like remote control is, unfortunately, something children – and adults – can relate to.

I found this JavaScript in the book, "Designing with JavaScript" by Nick Heinle. It was in Chapter 2.

  3. The pseudo logic for this application.

Step 1: Open the remote window automatically when the main browser window opens.

Step 2: Set the size of the remote window.

Step 3: Load the HTML page containing the necessary links associated with the buttons listed above.

Step 4: When a visitor clicks on a button, the link redirects the visitor from the remote window to the appropriate page.

Step 5: This new page appears in the "opener" or original window.
